Oceanside -- Eugene Peiffer, 83, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, in Hemet. Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Marienthal, Kan., he lived in Oceanside for 55 years.
He retired in 1980 from civil service. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a master sergeant, retiring in 1959. He served with the Fleet Marine aboard the USS Nashville for five years. He was stationed in Saipan, Tinian, Japan and Camp Pendleton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oceanside, the Oceanside Elks Club and the Senior Center Horse Pitchers.
Mr. Peiffer was preceded in death by his son, Kelly Peiffer, on May 15, 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nellie V. Peiffer of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Victor and Lavada Peiffer of Wildomar; daughters and son-in-law Regina Morrison and Robert Hadf III of Fort Dick and Aleta Robinson of Crescent City; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased. He donated his remains to the UC San Diego School of Medicine in La Jolla.
