Sylvia Alsbrooks, a long time resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away in Clarksburg, W.V., on Aug. 18, 2011, after a long illness. Sylvia was the daughter of Fred and Vera Drynan, and was born in London, England, on July 13, 1934. In 1953, she met and married Jim Alsbrooks, a member of the U.S. Air Force. They shared more than 49 years together.
Sylvia and her family moved to the Fort Walton Beach area in 1970, shortly after Jim retired from the Air Force. In the 35 years she lived in Fort Walton Beach, Sylvia was an active member of the British Wives Club, the Eglin Air Force Base Chapel and the "Senior Friends" association. In 2005, Silvia left Fort Walton Beach to be closer to her family in West Virginia, but she maintained close contact with her friends in Fort Walton Beach through the rest of her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and is survived by her son, John; her grandsons, Graham and Trevor; and her great-granddaughter, Sophia.
The family invites you to her funeral service, conducted by Rev. Ron Meade, at the Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Commitment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery the same day at 1:15 p.m.
