Parkersburg News and Sentinel

Timothy Lee Rinehart, born Aug. 16, 1950, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 19, 2009, and, as in life, he was surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Rinehart; and his mother, Phyllis Maxine Hardman Rinehart.

He is survived by his wife and best friend for 32 years, Tal K. Rothwell Weaver Rinehart; his brother, Michael K. (Janet) Rinehart of Parkersburg; his sister, Melinda K. (Samuel D.) Bailey of Walker, W.Va.; his children, Randall J. Rinehart of Pennsylvania, Janette K. Rinehart of Idaho, Sherri (David) Rinehart Alderman of Idaho, Kimberli E. Weaver of Parkersburg and Thomas J. Weaver of North Carolina; and his grandchildren, Wesley A. Hutson Jr. of Parkersburg, Samantha D. Hutson of Parkersburg, Jessica Rinehart of Pennsylvania, Jordan Rinehart of Pennsylvania, Ashton Palmer of North Carolina, Brendon Palmer of North Carolina and Nolan Palmer of North Carolina. His outreach to those beyond his family was a way of life and his kind touch will always be remembered by his foster/adopted grandchildren, Roger D. Monroe, Harli Rose Law, Leslie Croston, Ashley McGrew, Mercedes Bunner, Ashley Gant, Maria Sensabaugh, Jontrell Foster, Michael Hutson, Tyler Hutson and Jeffery Hutson.

Tim graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1968 and attended WVU in Morgantown before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. He advanced to the rank of Sergeant while with the Security Police K-9 Division. Upon returning to civilian life, Tim became a deputy with the Wood County Sheriff's Office, obtaining the rank of Corporal and Chief of Detective of the Detective Bureau. In 1990, Tim joined Woodcraft Supply, LLC as the technical service department supervisor and was promoted to product development manager in 1992. Tim was subsequently promoted to senior product development manager, a position he filled until his illness.

Tim was a strong believer in family, as well as a man of high moral values and integrity. In life, Tim dedicated himself to teaching these time honored character traits to others as a member of the Methodist church, as a coach in little league programs, as a worker with the Cub Scouts, as an NRA instructor, as a supporter of St. Judes Children's Hospital and as a mentor to young adults in general encouraging them to "GO FOR IT - Loud and Proud."

Tim was a gifted woodworker, but his talents went well beyond woodworking. He was an accomplished artist, played the guitar, clarinet and harmonica, and an excellent marksman. He enjoyed motorcycles, camping and fishing. His friends and family always felt the TV show "MacGyver" was patterned after Tim, as he could fix anything with anything.

Tim, loving husband, nurturing father and grandfather, character building mentor, talented artisan, humanitarian, and a real life hero to his wife Tal, will be missed by all.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Jack Coalgrove and Mr. Jody Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and special music time from 10-10:50 a.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home.

At Tim's request, memorial contributions are encouraged to Duke University Hospital, DUMC- 3139, Durham, NC 27710, St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929, or Housecalls Hospice, 1226 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101 Envelopes for these contributions will be available at Leavitt Funeral Home.
