George W McClish, 71, passed away Tuesday morning, June 25th at Three Rivers Hospital following an illness of one month.
Born on October 9, 1868 in Leonidas Township, the son of George F. and Elizabeth McClish, his early years were lived in the country.
On February 27, 1890 he was married to Katherine Root daughter of George S. and Lucy Root, at the Root farm home four miles northeast of Mendon, to which union were born four sons; Carl who passed away in February, 1920; Verne, Howard and Harley.
Following a period of five years given to farming him being mechanically inclined, moved his family to Mendon in the year 1896 and in the same year, opened a blacksmith and general repair shop on West Main St., just east of River Street which business he successfully operated for approximately 24 years.
Characteristic of Mr. McClish was his devotion to home. He choose to live the most of his life in this community amidst a large number of friends and relatives. He liked to make handicraft articles in spare time, with a particular interest in the manufacture of violins of which he made several of good quality.
Surviving, are the widow; three children, Verne L. and G. Howard of Jackson, and Harley K. of Mendon; three sisters, Mrs. Matilda Riddle of Vicksburg; Mrs. Safrona Bowerman and Mrs. Effie Jones of Mendon and one brother, Henry McClish of Mesick, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
