Margaret E. Bird of Leominster passed from this life on Easter Sunday April 8, 2012.

Born and raised in Leominster, the daughter of John & Doris (Brown) Bird.

She graduated from Leominster High School Class of 1943 and Clark University Class of 1947.

Margaret was pioneer of her time, she was an independent and intelligent woman who was determined to seek a higher education, to drive a car, have a career and travel the world.

Margaret graduated from Clark as a chemist and was the first female chemist hired by Foster Grant. She worked nearly 39 years in the research and development lab at Foster Grant in Leominster until she retired in 1986 from American Hoechst.

Margaret was a gentle, kind and caring woman who had a deep love and commitment to her many nieces, nephews and friends, always caring, encouraging and supportive especially with regard to education.

Predeceased by her favorite dog Skippy, her cousin and best friend Grace "Tish" Foster, sister Constance E. Bean, brother William Young, nephews Mark J. Bean, Richard Young.

Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster.
