Gene A. Baker of Peachtree City, and a longtime resident of Dunwoody, Georgia passed away on March 19th, 2014.

He was born in Tallapoosa County Alabama near the community of Hackneyville, and was preceded in death by his parents Hershel and Thelma Campbell Baker, three brothers, and his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Sharpe Baker.

He is survived by his wife Betty Burnett Baker and three children, Darnell Baker Petro, Beverly Baker Gatlin and Ronald Eugene Baker. He was called Grandpa by four grandchildren, Ryan Reeves, Chancy Gatlin, Wyatt Gatlin, and Mary Kate Baker. He also had one great-grandson, Bennett Reeves. He is also survived by two sisters, Janet Baker Scott and Cynthia Baker Nelson and one brother, Mack D. Baker. Uncle Gene had multiple nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Hackneyville High School and attending college, he was off to join the United States Air Force where he served a distinguished 20-year career. He then worked for the U. S Department of Labor, and Singer Corporation for many years prior to his retirement in 1995, when he was able to fulfill his desire for golfing, travel, and his continued community service.

Gene Baker dedicated much of his honored life serving various capacities in the following organizations:
Past Master & 50-year Mason – Wichita Falls Texas Masonic Lodge
33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason – Valley of Atlanta
Past President – Masonic Center of Atlanta
Past Potentate – Yaarab Shine Temple of Atlanta
Member of many other Charitable Masonic Organizations
Honorary Kentucky Colonel

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 22nd at 10:00 AM (EDT) at the Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Georgia. The Reverend Dr. David Chancy of the McDonough Road Baptist Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday evening.

A gravesite service will also be held at 2:00 PM (CDT) at the Hillview Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon in Alexander City, Alabama, with the Reverend Matt Haines from the 6th Street Baptist Church presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following charities:
Shriners Pediatric Specialty Hospital for Children
Children's Masonic Home of Georgia
