Consuelo Olvera
1926-2012

Consuelo Olvera, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, at her home with her husband and children at her side.
She was born February 8, 1926, in Atchison, Kan., daughter of Guadalupe and Refugio Lopez.
She was united in marriage to Jesse L. Olvera on April 12, 1947, at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in Atchison, and they shared 65 years of marriage together.
She began her working career at St. Benedict's College as a Switchboard operator. After her marriage, she was a homemaker but later worked at Noma Lites, Methodist Medical Center, Paradise Donuts, Diane's Card and Party Shop, and finally at LaModes Women's Wear, where she made many lifetime friends. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Consuelo was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters,Josephine Guardado, Lupe Galley, (Alberta)Aurora Lopez , Maria Magdalena Lopez , and Refugio Lopez; and three brothers, Moises Lopez I ,Moises Lopez II , and Jose Sergio Lopez.
Survivors include her husband, of 65 years, Jesse Olvera, of the home; her four children, Jesus L. (Barbara) Olvera, Mark (Kathy) Olvera, Amelia (Leo) Bravo, all of St. Joseph and Sylvia (James) Lowrance of Marshalltown, Iowa; her grandchildren, Daniel (Stephanie) Olvera, Jamie (Chris) Henze, Michael (Heather) Olvera, Carlos (Jill) Olvera, Christopher Lowrance (Janette Aguilar), Amy (Nate) Barron, Donald Prior, MaryGrace (Scott) Brouhard, Geoffrey Prior, Sean Olvera, and Kyle Olvera; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tina Black of St Joseph and Mary (Lee) Felts of Madison, Miss.; a brother, Bob (Carol) Lopez of Hampton, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the St. James Catholic Church, Fr. Joseph Totton, Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers to St. James Catholic Church or the Hands of Hope Hospice.
