"Wesley M. Hoover, 55, foreman of the inspection laboratory of American Oil Co., died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday in St. Anthony's Hospital.

"Mr. Hoover, who lived at 103 Norwood drive, East Alton, had been ill for eight months and a patient in the hospital four weeks.

"He had been employed at American Oil for 24 years. His service there was interrupted during World War II when he served two years in the U.S. Navy, with 16 months in the South Pacific.

"A son of the late Rev. Samuel E. Hoover and Mrs. Rosa Hoover, he was born Sept. 18, 1910, at Lock Springs,Daviess Co, MO, USA.

"He was graduated from Central College at Fayette, Mo., and did graduate work at the University of Missouri.

"Before his employment at American Oil he taught school at Missouri and at Wood River.

"Mr. Hoover was a charter member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, Rosewood Heights; a member of the official board of the church and sang in the church choir. He was a member of Wood River Post 204, American Legion, and Wood River Lodge 1062, AF&AM.

"His widow, the former Jewell Haven Phipps, whom he married Dec. 24, 1938, at Marquand, Madison Co, MO., and his mother survive. He also leaves three brothers, Cecil, Moberly, Mo., Sam, St. Joseph, Mo., and Wayne, Manhattan, Kans., two sisters, Mrs. Hycel Gibson, Forest City, Mo., Mrs. Alex Allan, Naches, Wash. Besides his father he was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy and Mary.

"Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Hollis officiating.

"The body is at Marks Mortuary where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today. The body will be moved to the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in Woodland Hill Cemetery, East Alton, Madison Co, IL, USA.
