Jennie was born in Brockway Township of Stearns County, Minnesota. She grew up without knowing her father, who died in 1875 when she was less than two years old. Jennie received eight years of education in the district school house by the Hiscock farm. She had no formal work experience, her time was entirely devoted to husband and family. Everett and Jennie Perry had ten children: Samuel Everett Perry, Harvey Nelson Perry, Charles W. Perry, Mamie Lenore Perry, Nettie Alma Perry, Laura Carolyn Perry, Irma Lucille Perry, Edna Earl Perry, and Wesley Leroy Perry. Charles W. Perry and one unnamed male died in infancy.

Jennie's pastimes were quilting and reading. She collected poems and songs just like her mother did. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Jen" by neighborhood kids. She was a gentle person and wonderful with children.

Jennie was a Methodist after her mother, and later in life she was baptized in the Episcopal Church.
