Death of Jesse E. Couts
Jesse E. Couts, an old and highley respected citizen of south-west Morgan, died 3 August at the home of W.H.H. Argenbright, ten miles west of Versailles, where he had gone on a visit. Deceased was born in Lafayette County, Missouri, in 1822 and was 86 years of age at the time of his death. He had been married twice and is survived by six children, three sons and three daughters, both of his wives being dead. Mr. Couts had lived in Morgan County for many years and was generally respected by all who knew him. For many years he had been a faithful and devout member of the Methodist Church. Deceased was a member of the 8th Regiment M.S.M. Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War of which Squire Wm S. Gibbs was first Luetenant and W.H.H. Argenbright was Seargent. Funeral service were conducted by the Rev. C.J. Polston Tuesday, August 4, after which the remains were interred in Ritchie Church Cemetery in the presents of many sorrowing friends and relatives.
