Mary Jeanne Chinn Gross (1929 - 2012)

Mary Jeanne Chinn Gross, formerly of Bosworth, Mo., passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, in Arlington. Burial: Cremation burial will be held at a later date in Big Creek Cemetery in Missouri. Memorials: In memory of her love of animals, donations can be made to the Chillicothe, Mo., animal shelter.

She was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Delford L. and Louise Brolliar Chinn. Mary Jeanne was employed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Technical Library for 20 years, where she retired on May 31, 1994. She earned FOIA responsibility and assisted engineers and physicists in their work as needed. She performed basic typing duties and preparation work in 1975 for engineers and worked for five years with computer data at NRC headquarters in Bethesda, Md. Throughout her personal life as a military wife of 20 years and beyond, she pursued her love of music, art and cats. Over those years she taught herself to play the piano, and took voice lessons, which eventually lead to singing opera with the San Antonio and Fort Worth opera companies for many years. Her pursuance of art led her into watercolor, reverse painting and acrylics of still life, landscapes and reproductions of the masters. On the side, she also went antique hunting with her friends wherever she lived. She was a Methodist and belonged to the JOBS Daughters-American Art League, served on the Northwest Missouri Council Area on Aging and was a volunteer at the Chillicothe Senior Center in Chillicothe, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors: Son, Robert D. Gross of Arlington; daughter, Mary C. King of Culpeper, Va.; grandchildren, Sandi Voskian of Vienna, Va., and Paul Barrett IV of Mount Airy, Md.; and great-grandchildren, Michael Voskian and Carter and Corrine Barrett.
