Gerald Ashley Miles was born December 7, 1883 to Alexander Abram Miles and Susanna Miles (nee Harris). He was one of ten children. As a young man he moved to Canada. He served in World War I as a soldier for Great Britain. He also homesteaded in Alberta, Canada before his marriage in 1918 to Violet Frances Parker. After their marriage the couple immigrated to Portland Oregon where Gerald worked for the railroad at Union Station. Their two children were born in Portland - Geraldine Frances and Kenneth Ashley. Gerald died in 1948 at the age of 65.
