Karolyn was the daughter of Marvin A. and Myrtle V. Koerber. While attending Moody, Dr. Wendell Kempton met fellow student Karolyn Rose Koerber. They married in 1956 and had three children (Mark, Stan, and Wendy). In 1980, Karolyn suddenly went home to be with the Lord.

The Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE) has a long history in Togo. In 1985, the mission opened the Karolyn Kempton Memorial Hospital in the southern region of Togo, in the village of Tsiko. The missionaries that work their not only reach the physical needs of the people, but also the spiritual needs as well. The gospel is having an great impact in Togo.
