OGDEN - Jay Gould Stone, 72, 2804 Malan Ave., Ogden, prominent church, business, and civic leader, died of natural causes Friday evening at an Ogden nursing home..
Mr. Stone had been assistant general manager and secretary of the Ogden Iron Works.
He was a member of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce and president and regional representative of the Utah Purchasing Agents Association. He was a member of the Ogden chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers.
Mr. Stone was former secretary and vice president of the Ogden Kiwanis Club, and a representative on the district committee for Kiwanis International.
Mr Stone was born March 16, 1892, in LaBelle, Idaho, to Friend and Josephine Johnson Stone. He married Florence Priscilla Middleton, March 18, 1914, in the Salt Lake Temple, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He had been a counselor in the North Weber Stake presidency, member of the ward finance committee, and served in the presidency of the high priest quorums in the Mount Ogden and East Ogden stakes.
Survivors include his widow; a son and two daughters; Lowell M. Stone, Ogden; Mrs. Seaman S. (Opal) Mills, Boise; Mrs. Rodger R. (Grace) Sears, Washington Grove, Maryland; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two brothers, Jewel F. Stone, Sparks, Nevada; Clarence F. Stone, Beowawe, Nevada; sister, Mrs. Olive Stone Robinson, Reno, Nevada.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the LDS forty-third Ward Chapel, 1641 - 26th St. Friends may call at the Meyers Mortuary, 845 Washington Ave., Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday until services. Burial will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.
