Dona Lee Bates
Aug. 2, 1930 — March 5, 2011

Dona Lee Bates, 80, of Lebanon went to be with her Lord Saturday, March 5, while attending a granddaughter's basketball game in Pendleton.

Dona was born in Lebanon the daughter of Rex and Amy (Sturdevant) Nichols. Dona graduated from Lebanon High School in 1948 and then attended Phagans' School of Beauty in Salem. She operated her own beauty shop out of her home for several years before becoming a homemaker and raising her family.

She married Harold Bates on Aug. 19, 1950, in Vancouver, Wash. Dona and Harold worked side by side in all the family activities during their 60 year marriage. She helped with the construction business, row crop farming and trailer park management. They particularly enjoyed following all the sporting activities of their grandchildren the past several years.

Dona was a member of the Crowfoot Baptist Church and also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, flowers and working on computers.

She is survived by her husband, Harold of Lebanon; four sons and their wives, Lynn and Patti Bates of Turner, Lonnie and Sandy Bates of Salem, Kim and Carolyn Bates, Kory and Angie Bates, all of Lebanon; daughter Lori and husband Jeff Stolsig of Lebanon; 13 grandchildren, Molly Ficek, J.J. and Linzi Stolsig, and Josh, Jillanne, Megan, Bryce, Maurisa, Austin, Tara, Taylor, Jacob and Brandon Bates; and six great-grandchildren, Luke and Ava Stone, Logan Ficek, Blake Bates, Grayson Dodson and Emma Bates.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Oakley and Doris Betz; and great-granddaughter Alison Lee Stone.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at Crowfoot Baptist Church. Graveside services for family will be at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery.
