"In memory of J D Bills:

"J D taken sick Wed. eve., July 28, 1926.
Was operated on for appendicitis on Thursday, July 29, at 10 o'clock. He went to sleep on Sunday morning, August 1, at 4:20 o'clock, and was laid to rest Monday, August 2, at 3 o'clock at Brushy Cemetery.

"Bro. Holtons spoke words of comfort to all. 'Asleep in Jesus, Blessed sleep, from which he cannot wake to weep. He is not dead, but sleepeth.'

"He was born Nov. 7, 1917. He was 8 years, 9 months old. He was in the third grade.

He was the leader of the singing in his Sunday school class. His favorite songs were "Power in the Blood,' 'Only One Road,' and 'In That Land of Sweet Forever.'"

He was preceded in death by:

A brother, Jackson Hezekiah Bills, Jr., born and died December 21, 1911, Neri Texas, buried in Rough Creek Cemetery, Hood County, Texas.

Sisters:

Mildred Lucille Bills, born March 19, 1914, died Jan. 28, 1917, Neri, Texas, buried in Rough Creek Cemetery, Hood County, Texas.

Dorothy Christine Bills, born January 9, 1923, died April 11, 1923, Neri, Texas, buried in Rough Creek Cemetery, Hood County, Texas.

He was survived by his parents,

Two sisters:

Jewell Lee Bills , born Sept. 8, 1906 (1904?), Neri, Texas. (married Carroll Fletcher), died Phoenix AZ., 1982, buried Mesa, Az.

Bernice Rosella Bills born Nov. 24, 1908, (married John Bonin) Died Ft. Worth, Tx., March 26, 1985, buried Rough Creek Cemetery, Hood County, Texas

One brother:

Carroll Edwin Bills, Sr., Born Nov. 13, 1924, Neri, Texas. (married Mary Linn Tracy) Died Clarendon, Texas, July 6, 2008, buried Memorial Park Cemetery, Vega, Oldham County, Texas.

NOTE: Several years ago, it was noticed that J D's headstone was missing from his grave. He is buried beside his father inside the Jack Bills curbing with several other family members. Arrangements have been made for a new headstone to be set this summer, 2012.

NOTE: June, 2012, This new headstone has been set. In the process, the original headstone was found under several inches of soil and covered by an invasive bush. Gratitude is due Brian Bonin and Brian's son Jeffery, J D's great nephew and gg nephew, for the work they have done in the family plot.
