Mary Margaret Dowd was born in Los Angeles on July 19, 1921, along with her twin brother Jim to Irish immigrant parents, Andrew and Mary Nolan.

She married Joe Dowd on September 25, 1943 in Hollywood, Florida. Following the war, they settled in North Hollywood, CA, where they raised their 3 children. As well as being a homemaker, Mary taught CCD (religion classes) and gave as many as 30 piano lessons each week.

Mary and Joe retired to rural Paso Robles in 1976, where they enjoyed the remaining years of Joe's life.

Following her move to Chico, Mary began working for Catholic Ladies food locker and subsequently became president of Catholic Ladies. She worked the phone line, setting up housing for many homeless people. She became a Eucharistic minister, taking communion to shut-ins one day per week.

Mary passed away on April 10, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Dowd, and her 5 brothers, Joe, Milton, Andrew, Tom, and Jim Nolan. She is survived by her children, Pat (Trudy) of Carmel Valley, Jerry (Marguerite) of San Clemente, and Andrea Petersen (Pete) of Chico; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
