On March 11, 1930 a baby boy, named El Roy McShan was born to Lee Roy McShan and Lucy Reese McShan in the Young's Prairie Community, Bastrop, County, Texas. He attended Chapel Ann School and Washington High School. Elroy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1939 and was baptized by the Reverend, S.M. Metters, Sr. at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. On October 14, 1950, he met and married Mattie B. Simmons. To this union four children were born.

Reverend McShan was called into ministry and received his preaching certificate on February 10, 1952, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, by the Reverend, R.L. Taylor and was ordained to preach God's word on May 15, 1955 at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church by the Reverend, J.W. Walker. As part of his ministry, Elroy attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received his degree in Theology on June 1, 1958. Reverend McShan was the Pastor of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church for 44 years, Pear Valley Baptist Church of Coupland for 5 years, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Plum, Texas for 40 years, and Greater Sweet Home Baptist Church for 12 years until his death. Reverend McShan also held a second career as a farmer and eventually retired as a forklift driver from Elgin Butler Brick.

He was preceded in death by both his parents; daughter, Bertha B. Jackson; sister, Milia M. Goins; and brother, Otha McShan.

He leaves to Cherish his memories his wife of 62 years, Mattie B. McShan; three sons, Roy McShan and wife Loretta of Houston, Reverend Luchus McShan and wife Gladys of Elgin, and Reverend Eljay McShan of Bastrop; one brother, S.H. McShan and wife Mattie; three sisters, Evelyn Flowers, Majorie Clayton, and Mary Lucy and husband Reverend Thaddeus McDonald; four grandchildren, Brian Keith McShan, Kendal McShan and wife Veronica, Beatrice Jackson, and Cassandra Nichole McShan; three great-grandchildren, Justice, Jaylon, and Jordan McShan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The family received guests at the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday, April 13th. A Home Going Celebration was conducted at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 14th with the Reverends, L.R. Wilson and L.R. White officiating.
