Lawrence Washington was born at Red House, Putnam County, West Virginia now, but it was called Red House Shoals, Mason County, Virginia back in 1800's.

Lawrence Augustine Washington was born in Winchester, Frederick Co., VA, the son of Lawrence Augustine Washington b. 11 Apr 1774 in Harewood, Jefferson Co., VA, and Mary Dorcas Wood b. 6 Nov 1781.

He married on the 21 Nov 1839 in VA, Martha Dickinson Shrewsbury b. 1820, d. 1891, the daughter of John Shrewsbury b. in of Charleston, Kanawha Co., VA, and Julia B. Shrewsbury ( his cousin). Julia B. is the daughter of Joel Shrewsbury SR. brother of John Shrewsbury SR. .

They had the following children: Lawrence Washington III b. 21 Mar 1841 in Kanahwa Co., WV, d. 20 Aug 1852 in Denison, Grayson Co., TX; Walter Good b. 21 Feb 1843 in Mason Co., WV; John Shrewsbury b. 27 Apr 1845 in Mason Co., WV; James Turner Washington b. 3 Mar 1847 in Mason Co., WV; Emma Tell b. 27 Sep 1849 in Mason Co., WV; Julia Wood b. 29 May 1850 in Columbus Colorado Co., TX; and Cecil Wood Washington b. 1 Jun 1858 in Colorado Co., TX.

Lawrence was a doctor who died of heart disease suddenly with no doctor in attendance. He was a great-nephew of George Washington, 1st President, and had moved to TX in 1850 to Colorado Co. He resided in Denison, Grayson Co., TX, at the time of his death.

Dr. Lawrence Augustine Washington, who was a grandson of Colonel Samuel Washington, a brother of General George Washington. Dr. Lawrence A. Washington was the son of Lawrence A. Washington, who was the adopted son of General Washington and married Miss Martha Shrewsbury, a lineal descendant of the Earl of Shrewsbury. They were married in Virginia and moved to Colorado county, Texas, about 1847, where he owned a large plantation and accumulated great wealth in land and cotton. He died in 1888, and his wife in 1891, at Denison, Texas, at which place they had for several years made their home.
