LANCASTER: Virgil Lewis Mowery, 84, of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on October 20, 1927 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Daniel Boone Mowery and Sarah Louvina (Hawk) Mowery.

Virgil lived his entire life in Lancaster. He was a World War II US Army Veteran. Virgil married Alberta "Becky" Alford on November 6, 1948 at the Nazarene Church in Lancaster. He retired from McClellan's Home Dairy and Fairfield County Waste Water Divison.

He is survived by 12 children, Margaret Kay Rollins, Charles Lewis "Andy" Mowery, Alva Jean (Dorsie) Lewis Jr., Daniel Elmer Mowery, Rebecca Ann (Dale) Hart, Catherine Louvinia (Bill) Shull, Tina Marie Hively (Steve Bair), Leee Adam Mowery, George Allen (Melva) Mowery all of Lancaster, Ohio, Sarah Jane (David) Wentz of Bremen, Ohio, Virgil Henry (Sherry) Mowery of Junction City, Ohio ans Alice Doreen (Bill) Brewer of Palestine, Texas; step-children,Paul (Liza) Mason of Oklahoma, Tony (Joyce) Mason, Eddie (Hope) Mason, Benny Mason, Danny (Janet) Mason and Johnny (Lori) Mason all of Lancaster, Susie Gregory and Linda Gordon all of Columbus, Ohio; 50 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta "Becky" (Alford) Mowery; special friend and companion,Margaret (Cody) Mason; son, Robert Leroy Mowery; great-grandson, Bryson T. Mershon; brother, Robert Lee Mowery; sister, Helena Jane (Mowery) Derr; brother-in-law, Foster Denzil Derr; and step-son, Stanley Mason.

Funeral service will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 NORTH COLUMBUS STREET, LANCASTER, OHIO 43130.

Burial to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given to charity of donor's choice.
