Freddie W. Best, Sr. - SAVANNAH - Freddie W. Best, Sr., 83, of Savannah, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Freddie was born in Bulloch County, Ga., July 17, 1928. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army in the Korean Conflict. He moved to Savannah in 1955, and worked as Manager of the Meat Department for David's Supermarket, for 35 years. He then worked shortly for Smith Bros. Supermarket. He joined the Staff of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, May 1, 1995, and worked until his health failed him. Freddie was loved by all who came in contact with him. He always took care of the families, by driving them on funeral day. He was a member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church for the past 57 years, where he served as Deacon Emeritus, the Pulpit Committee, a Sunday School Teacher, Church Training Teacher, Song Leader and Interim Choir Director at both Ardsley Park Baptist Church and Silk Hope Baptist Church. Freddie also was a member of Gideon's International. Freddie held weekly Church Services, every Thursday night at Savannah Specialty Nursing Home on Paulsen and 63rd Street, for 38 years, until his health failed him. The patients looked forward to his coming, and leading the services. They especially enjoyed the singing, and Freddie loved to sing. He is survived by his wife, Doris Dickey Best, of Savannah, Ga; 3 sons, Fred W. Best, Jr., (Sharon) of Augusta, Ga; Dickey Tyler Best (Jennie), Savannah, Ga., and Jason Curtis Best (Valerie) of Bluffton, S.C., 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga 31406. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Ardsley Park Baptist Church, with Rev. Edward Buddy Clay, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
