Born in Savoy, Texas the son of John Talmadge Garrett and Georgia Gaines Garrett. He married Janie Colburn on October 5, 1939.
Maurice was a Veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and he served as Worshipful Master in the Burkeville Lodge. He was the owner of Garrett's Auto Supply. He enjoyed a great retirement with his wife at Toledo Bend Lake for twenty one years, where he loved being with his family and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maureen Jane Hutchins; brothers, Don Garrett, Kenneth Garrett and Billy Garrett; and sister, Frances Watson.
He was survived by his wife, Janie Colburn Garrett; daughter, Jo Earline "Tu Tu" Andrews Cron; son-in-law, James "Hutch" Hutchins; granddaughter, Jane Dyer and her husband Ernie; grandsons, Mark Welch and his wife Teresa, Todd Trawhon and his wife Trema, Troy Trawhon and his wife Leigh-ann; eight great-grandchildren; Dustin Dyer, Ashton Dyer, Katie Welch, Mackenzie Trawhon, Drake Trawhon, Claire Trawhon, Pate Arena and Conner Trawhon; brothers, Dr. James Garrett, Lindy Garrett and Gerald "Red" Garrett.
Memorial service at First Presbyterian Church in Orange, with Reverend Mike Umbenhaur, officiating.
