DIES SUDDENLY

The community was shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Joseph Kolm which occurred sometime Saturday forenoon at her home north of town. She had been in poor health for sometime and recently returned from the hospital where medical treatment had not improved her condition.

Victoria Flakus was born in Platte County August 24, 1905. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Flakus of this place and a young lady endeared to her friends and family. A year ago last spring she was married to Joe Kolm and a baby born to them recently, died shortly after birth.

Funeral services were held at the St. Anthony Church Monday morning at 9 o'clock and interment made in the Parish cemetery.

Those who were here from out-of-town to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Blaser, Mrs. Barney Micek, Miss Anne Micek, John and Sam Micek, all of Columbus.

Death of Mrs. Joe Kolm

The community was shocked Saturday to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Joe Kolm, living four miles northeast of Cedar Rapids, who died between the hours of 10 and 11 a.m. The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 o’clock with a requiem high mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Vermullen, and the body laid to rest in St. Anthony’s cemetery. A large crowd attended the funeral. The deceased was a splendid neighbor, loyal friend, devoted wife, dutiful daughter and a much loved sister. As Victoria Flakus she was born in Tarnov Aug. 24, 1905, and at the time of her death she was 20 years, 8 months and 28 days old. She was united in marriage Feb. 18, 1925, to Joe Kolm and since has made her home in this community. Besides her heart-broken husband, she leaves to mourn her death her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Flakus, two brothers, Leo, of Detroit, and Joe, who is at home, two sisters, Monica, of Omaha, and Lucille, who is at home The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. The sympathy of friends and neighbors is extended the bereaved family. Pall bearers were Henry Jacobi, Alfred Kleve, Mike and Stanley Zoucha, Sylvester Schmitz and Joe Miller. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Miss Monica Flakus, her sister, of Omaha; Mrs. Agnes Micek and son, Thomas, and daughter, Anna; Mr. and Mrs. John Kusek and daughter, Florence, and Mrs. John Toczek, all of Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. Adam Korus, of Tarnov; Mrs. Mary Flakus, of Albion, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kusek, of Spalding.
