Frederick H. Knight, 42, of Knox, died Saturday April 7, 2012, at his residence in Knox
.
Born Jan. 15, 1970, he was the son of Jack and Dorothy Butz Knight of RD Knox.

Fred enjoyed animals, especially cats, being outdoors and was known for being very helpful to his friends and family.

Fred graduated from Keystone High School in 1988 and then served in the Navy from 1988 until 1992, working his way up to boiler technician second class. While in the Navy he served in the Persian Gulf War and received a letter of commendation for stopping and containing a fuel leak that otherwise may have caused catastrophic damage to the USS Seattle.

After serving in the Navy, Fred worked for several area businesses, including Eden Inc., D.N. Stover Inc., Venango Newspapers, Swartzfager Welding, Venclar Construction and Walmart. He spent much time recycling scrap metal.

Fred is survived by his mother Dorothy; a daughter, Elizabeth Knight; a step-daughter, Summer Shaner; a sister, Shirley Carroll and her husband Patrick of Lucinda; a niece, Samantha Gatesman; and several aunts, uncles and cousins including a special aunt, Bonnie Benninger.

Fred was preceded in death by his father, Jack; his brother, Jason Knight; and his uncle, Tom Knight.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11a.m. Saturday at the Providence United Methodist Church, 245 Providence Church Road, Knox.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Betsy Cooper officiating.
Interment with full military services accorded by Berlin Bowser American Legion Post 720 will follow in the Providence Church cemetery.

There will also be a memorial Mass on Tuesday, April 17, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Emlenton with Msgr. Jan Olowin presiding.
