George William Tubbs Sr. Master Sergeant Ret., 71, died March 30, 2005 in Hamilton. Funeral services were April 1 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Pete Jordan officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Cemetery.
Mr. Tubbs was born March 23, 1934 in Mills County on the Irvin Ranch near Center City, the son of Elbert Marion Tubbs and Roxie Mae Parsons Tubbs.
After graduating high school he worked for Gulf State Telephone Company prior to entering the Army. He served his county with honor serving four years foreign service. He earned the following honors: the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal with One V Device, eight Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbon, two NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Drive and Mechanic Badge and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
He was a loving and caring father. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War at Gatesville and a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Mason Tubbs; six children, Cynthia Partin, Sandra Maurer, Peggy Michael, Laverne Brown, George W. Tubbs Jr.and Justin Tubbs; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Bethel Kelly; four brothers, Raymond Tubbs, Walter Tubbs, Grady Tubbs and Glen Tubbs.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson Dennis Maurer and two sisters, Myrtle Tubbs and Allie Mae Bollier; six brothers, Virgil, Haskell, James, Johnny, Tommy and Elmer Tubbs.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Schronk, Bob McFarlin, Garland Holden, Grady Hill, Richard Hill and Matt McKinzie. Riley Funeral Home
