MATTOON
Leo L. Cooley, age 72, of rural Mattoon, went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, at 10:35 AM, on May 29, 2003, at his residence.
The funeral service will held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Norman Amstutz and Reverend Tim Massengill officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service. Interment with military rights conducted by VFW Post 4325 will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Cooley was born July 29, 1931 in Vandalia, Illinois, the son of Charles M. and Myrtle Frakes Cooley. He married Evelyn Jeffers on December 24, 1950. Later he married Kathleen Oller on April 27, 1968 in Montgomery County.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen, and his children; Cindy Sawyer and husband Aaron of Lovington, Illinois, Erin Gorman of Springfield, Illinois, Becky Edwards and husband Jim, of Lovington, Lisa Barry and husband Greg of Springfield, Illinois, Todd Gorman and wife Cindy of Witt, Illinois, Kelly Gorman of Mattoon, Illinois, Lori Fisher and husband Donnie of Mattoon, Robert Cooley and Gina of Mattoon, Illinois, and Kevin Cooley and wife Penny of Mattoon, Illinois. He is also survived by 3 brothers, K. Dale Cooley, of Mattoon, Illinois, Paul Cooley of Hawaii, and Jim Cooley of Texas. He leaves 21 Grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 son, 2 brothers, and 2 grandchildren.
Leo was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. He served our country during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany with the Army. He was a member of the Eagles, and a lifetime member and past commander of the VFW. He was a sheet metal worker employed by Local 218 C in Champaign.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
