"DEATH OF SUPERVISOR WADE.
His/Prominence in the Affairs of the Town of Rose-Funeral Services.
Supervisor Joseph S. Wade of Rose died last Thursday from the effects of the stroke of apoplexy sustained two days previously. He was born in Rose, 63 [or 68?] years ago, a son of Dudley Wade who came from Connecticut early in the last century, and making Rose his home, became one of the most prominent men of the northeastern portion of the county. The father's prominence in town and county affairs was fully equalled by the son. The latter for upwards of fifteen years had held office in the town, being successively collector, overseer of the poor, justice of the peace and supervisor. In the social and industrial life of the town he was also an active and leading figure.
On the board of supervisors Mr. Wade's service had been short but it ad been marked by close attention to business and the display of sound judgment. He was of a quiet and reserved manner, not at all inclined to seek prominence or to play for the galleries, but in all matters affecting his town or of general import he was alert and well informed, and he gained rather than lost influence by expressing his opinions in a deliberate and dignified manner.
Mr. Wade had a record of unswerving loyalty to the republican party and many times represented his town in various conventions. He was a delegate to the state convention in 1900. Surviving relatives are a daughter, Mrs. B. E. Valentine, a brother, E. D. Wade, and a sister, Mrs. Imogene Irish, all of Rose.
Funeral services were held from the late residence Sunday afternoon. The board of supervisors attended in a body and there were present prominent men from all parts of the couty in addition to many friends of the deceased from his home town. There were many large floral pieces, one fron the supervisors being especially noticeable."
