POWNAL, Jan. 30 - The death of Charles Plummer Heywood, a notary public 20 years, occurred Saturday at his home in this town. He was born in North Vassalboro in 1874, the son of Rodney and Jennie Heywood. His parents died when he was very young and he was sent to live with his grandmother who took care of him several years. Later he went to Boston where he was graduated from the grammar school and then attended the high school in Alliston, Mass. His school days over, he was hired in Boston by Williams and Page, Wholesale dealers in felts and woolens. In 1904 Mr. Heywood married Ella Y. Hodsdon of Pownal, and one son, Andrew, was born to them. While living in Pownal, Mr. Heywood conducted a poultry business, and in 1917 was chairman of the board of selectmen. Later he lived in North Yarmouth where he conducted a grain business. He was a member of the Red Men, the grange, teh Masonic Blue lodge, K. of P., Universalist Church in New Gloucester and the past two years attended the Christian Science church in Yarmouth. Mr. Heywood is survived by his wife, Marie Tapley Heywood whom he married in 1932 after the death in 1919 of his wife wife; the son, Andrew of Wilkensburgh, Pa., and by two granddaughters, Dianna and Andrea Heywood.

POWNAL, Jan 28 - Charles Plummer Heywood, 64, former chairman of the board of selectmen here and a notary public for 20 years, died today at the Maine General Hospital, Portland following a long illness of eight weeks. He was born at North Vassalboro, the son of Rodney and Jennie Heywood, and his parents dying when he was a small boy, he was cared for by a grandmother. Much of early life was passed in Boston and its vicinity. He attended the grammar school in that city and the high school at Allstoon. For some time he was in the employ of Williams and Page, Boston dealers in felts and woolens. he had retired here for 30 years. On July 5, 1904, he married Ella J. Hodsdon, and they had a son Andrew. Mrs. Heywood died in 1919, and in 1933 he married Marie M. Tapley of North Yarmouth. He was chairman of the board of selectman in the World War period, and he had been a grain dealer here for about 15 years. he was a member of Wescustago Tribe of Redmen, Granite grange, the masons and Royal Arch Chapter at Yarmouth, and the Knights of Pythias. Besides his wife and son, he leaves two grandchildren, Dianne Isabel and Andrea York Heywood of Wilkinsburg. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the home of Fred Small, Hodsdon road Pownal.
