He was best known for playing the character roles of sailors, barons, loggers, bartenders, divers, masseuses, boarders, mounties, chauffeurs, sergeants, captains, German Nazi officers, and Scandinavian resistance fighters. He will be best remembered for playing the role of 'Sverre -the Norse King' in the historical adventure film drama, "The Crusades" (1935). The film which was directed by Cecil B. DeMille, and which was written for the screen by Harold Lamb, Waldemar Young, and Dudley Nichols, and which also starred Loretta Young, Henry Wilcoxon, and Ian Keith, tells the story of King Richard and the Third Crusade (1190-1192) who are given the Cecil B. DeMille treatment with more spectacle than history. He is also best remembered for playing the role of 'Hugo' in the episode entitled, "Double Identity," of the classic television series, "Adventure Of The Falcon," which originally aired on July 27, 1954, and which also starred Charles McGraw, Anthony Eustrel, and Jack Raine. He was born in Vinslov, Hässleholms kommun, Skåne län, Sweden, on July 26, 1896. He was educated locally and appeared in dramatic work on the stage in his native Sweden before eventually moving to the United States in 1924. He found work as a secretary with the Swedish Consulate in Los Angeles, California, and during this time he met the famous Swedish actress Greta Garbo. He became Greta Garbo's personal interpreter for one of her upcoming films. He went on and served as the actress's personal interpreter for a few years and he then decided to try his luck at an acting career.
