Sister Patrice Otteni
Taught for 58 years in diocesan schools


Sister Patrice Otteni, SSJ, 82, of the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph, died Thursday morning, Nov 7, 1991, at her residence.

A native of McKean, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Josephine Wingerter Otteni, pioneer McKean residents. She entered the sisters community form St. Francis Xavier parish in 1928, made her final profession in 1934 and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1989.

For 58 years, she ministered in diocesan parochial schools, including 28 years at St. Joseph's. Others included St. Patrick's, Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Heart and St. Paul's in Erie, and elementary schools in Clearfield, Meadville, Reynoldsville, and Bradford.

She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education form Villa Maria College. In retirement at the Motherhouse since 1986, she was active in serving the SSJ Prayer Call project; in letter writing to elected officials concerning political issues affecting peace, gun control and environment; and in sharing literature on those issues with the SSJ community.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Rose) Herrmann, Mrs. Thomas (Anna) Keys and Theresa Otteni; and six brothers, William, Fred, George, Anton, Henry, and Charles Otteni. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Villa Maria Motherhouse Convent, 819 W. 8th St. Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady's chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
