Son of Samuel H. and Hannah (Steel). Married Emma A. Mann 27 August, 1857, they had one son Walter H. Davis. Married Minerva Peppard 23 July, 1868 and they had three children - Elmer Stanley, Charles H and Minnie Ann. Nathaniel was a farmer in Winchester when he enlisted at the age of 30 as a Private in Company A, 1st Battalion Heavy Artillery Massachusetts Volunteers and was mustered in on February 26, 1862. He was discharged on Feb. 27, 1865.
