Golda Masters, 85, passed away April 5, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Memorial Services will be 7:00 pm Monday, April 9, 2012 at Victory Hills Church of the Nazarene, 6200 Parallel Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the church. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 12 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Golda Masters was born June 11, 1926 in Ashville, North Carolina. She is affectionately known to everyone as Grama Golda. She was raised in an orphanage and a couple foster homes from time to time. But she has come a long way in spite of her challenging start.

She became a school teacher and taught elementary children for forty-three years full time, mostly (thirty-seven years) in the Kansas City, Kansas School District at Welborn Elementary School. Naturally, she had a real heart for children that needed extra love and attention. She married Denver Reed in 1942 and they had one son named Ray who lives with his wife, Pat in Valencia, California. Denver Reed passed away in 1952. Golda married [second] David Masters in 1969 and they were partners for seven years until he, also, passed away in 1976. She remained unmarried from that time to the present.

As a teacher, Golda gave two years to serve on an Indian Reservation in New Mexico. She also received the National Teacher Award twice as the Kansas representative. The Church of the Nazarene gave her the Nazarene International Educators Award in 1996. The Kansas House of Representatives presented her with a Distinguished Educator's Award in 1999. She not only had a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Bethany Nazarene College (SNU), she completed a Master's Degree in her field from Kansas State University. She retired from teaching in May of 2002, but has continued as a part time substitute teacher. Grama Golda was saved on August 24, 1983 at Victory Hills Church. Soon after, she felt a call into the ministry. She began the Course of Study and became the Children's Pastor at VHCN where she served from 1986 through 2007. She received a degree from out Kansas City Nazarene School of Ministry and a Masters in Theology from NBC. She was ordained by the KC District in 2004. She volunteered at Children's Ministry as she was able and she had begun a morning Bible Study at a Retirement Center, in turn, she became the most awesome Grama to billions of children of all ages everywhere and a tremendous witness to the power and love of Jesus.

Arrangements: Porter Funeral Home & Crematory, 1837 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas (913) 621-6400.
