William H. Andy served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps Weather Bureau. He had assignments to St. Paul, Minnesota; La Crosse, Wisconsin; Marquette, Michigan; St. Vincent, Minnesota; Sante Fe, New Mexicon; Fort Grant, Arizona; and Los Angeles, California. He then served at Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Logan, Colorado; Denver, Colorado; and Fort Yates, North Dakota. At the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, William transferred to Tampa, Florida, and from there to the Philippine Islands, where he spent two years and three months. He became ill and returned to San Francisco, where he was retired from the service with three-fourths pay. He served in the military a total of 28 years, an allowance of two years being made for double service. William was a Sergeant during the Spanish-American War.Sp/Am War Co. F
