When he was 13 years old, he worked in the cotton mills in Mobile. He moved to Texas in the late 1800's and worked for various railroads throughout the state until he retired. He and his wife, Anna Dora(Annie) had eight children: Agnes, Annie Louise, Clarence, Dora, Frank, John, Katie, and Lillie. Some of the cities the family lived in and the dates they were there are: Houston-1899, Sherman-1904, Childress-1904, Ft. Worth-1906 & 1908, Teague-1910, and Walnut Springs-1912.
