The son of Harry and Ruby (Spangler) Carroll, he was born on a Stanton County farm and educated in a rural elementary school and Stanton High School. He entered the U.S. Army October 13, 1942 and served with the Combat Engineers of the 46th Artillery (25th Infantry Division) in World War II. in New Guinea and the Phillipines.
He and Helen Heller of Pilger married Febr. 24, 1946; they farmed in in Stanton County all their married life. Leon, Loren, and Don are their sons.
He was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans and various farm organizations.
He served on many church committees, was a 4-H leader, and on District 17 school board many years.
His funeral was August 11, 1986 at Stanton Methodist Church, where he was a active member. Burial was in the Stanton Cemetery.
