Joe Wayne Keefer, 79, of North Zulch, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 4, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation was held Friday, April 6, from 6 to 8 pm at the Cozart Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held at the Willowhole Church on Saturday, April 7, at 11:00 am. Burial followed at the Willowhole Cemetery. Charles Smith presided over the service. Services were entrusted to Cozart Funeral Home.
Joe Wayne Keefer was born August 30, 1932 to parents Joe Berry and Lula Grace (McComack) Keefer. Joe later married Dolly and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. He was a Railroad Bridge repair man for many years. He then ran for Justice of the Peace and he held this position for 16 years. He showed great honor in serving the community. Joe was involved with the Masonic Lodge in North Zulch for over fifty years. He was a family man and when he could find the time he loved to fish.
Joe was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife Thelma "Dolly" Keefer; and a sister Alice Andries.
He is survived by his sons, Jody Keefer and wife Joan of North Zulch, Charles Smith and wife Paula of Willis; a daughter Sharon Donahoe of Normangee; a sister Vivian Keefer of Dallas; he also has seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
