He was born Sept. 15, 1914, in rural Geary County, to Casper and Emma Amthauer Engstrom, and attended Chapman High School. He owned and operated Engstrom Brothers Trucking Co. for 20 years in Junction City. He was a civil service employee at Fort Riley for 20 years before he retired in 1979.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army for four years.
He was a member of Elks Lodge and American Legion.
He married Kathryn Breen on Aug. 15, 1941, in Junction City. She survives.
