Elmer Murphy was born September 25, 1931 in Jackson County and departed this life Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Specialty Selective Hospital in Lexington, being 78 years of age. He was the son of the late Albert & Gertrude (Parsons) Murphy.

Elmer is survived by four children: Robert Glenn Murphy of Berea, Famous Murphy, Marie Isaacs & Patty King all of Sand Gap and by four step children: Joannie Spivey of Berea, Sue Spivey of Winchester, Faye Flannery & Joyce Harrison both of Sand Gap. He was blessed with six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, eighteen step grandchildren and a host of step great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Elmer was also preceded in death by his first wife: Beulah Faye Murphy; by his second wife: Dema (Abner) Murphy; by a step son: Bruce Gabbard Jr. and by the following brothers and sisters: Charlie, Les, Floyd, Harold, Robert & Ethel Murphy, Hazel Isaacs, Mae Bowles, Maudie Pearson & Sudie Abner.

Elmer was of the Holiness Faith.

Funeral service was held 11:00 AM Sunday, May 30, 2010 at the Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Rose, Bro. Perry Johnson & Bro. Mark Horn officiating. Burial followed in the Abner Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matthew Gabbard, Bobby Jones, Jordan Murphy, Jamie Harrison, Buck King & Michael Gabbard. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. www.lakesfuneralhomemckee.com
