The funeral for Ovelyn I. Dudley Alford will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church. She died of causes related to age Tuesday [December 25] in a Vancouver convalescent center. She was 85.
Mrs. Alford was born in Oak, Neb., on Jan. 17, 1905, and had lived in Vancouver the last 26 years. She was a retired bookkeeper for the federal government in Spokane and Seattle.
Mrs. Alford was a member and had served as an elder, treasurer and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the church's Women's Association, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Bethany White Shrine and Order of the Amaranth.
Surviving Mrs. Alford are her sons, Robert D. of Vancouver and Lowell of Troutdale, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Alford's husband, Lowell, died in 1979.
Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to either the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 4300 Main St., Vancouver 98660, or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland 97201.
Mrs. Alford's casket will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel.
