James was a teamster, hauling fruit to market...laborer for an oil company...and worked for "public works" on the censuses...He was 5'11" tall, like his brother Hiram "Lee" Wright, who also was a teamster in Napa Co., California..James had light colored hair and blue eyes...

This is an article about a mishap he had in Woodland from the newspaper...

From "Woodland Daily Democrat".....October 21, 1898....
a Rampage
While James Wright was engaged in unloading some boxes from a car into his fruit wagon about 11:30 o'clock this morning, his team became frightened and ran away. At the corner of main and Fifth streets the horses made a short turn and the wagon collided with an electric light pole.
The reach was broken and the frightened animals started down Main street at a terrible gait with only the front wheels of the wagon. They succeeded in reaching the Bank of Woodland corner without colliding with any vehicles , although there were several narrow escapes.
At that point, however, the runaways struck a light vehicle belonging to Mr. Francis, and at the next moment they collided with Bidwell & Wright's rig, which was standing near the sidewalk. Immediately thereafter one of the horses stumbled and fell to the pavement, when a crowd rushed up and captured the runaways. None of the vehicles were damaged to any extent, and the horses escaped uninjured.
The runaway created a great deal of excitement and for a few minutes it looked as if it was impossible to avert an accident.
