Ewa was the daughter of Kacper Swider and Agata Olugosz. She was born 15 March in 1863, 1865 or 1867 (she used all three years).

Ewa's first husband was Karl Szczech. He died in about 1887. They had at least one child: Mary Szczech Swider Glodek in Boreczek, Sedziszow Malopolski, Podkarpackie, Poland.

Ewa's second husband was Jozef Nikodym Opiela. They were married ~1887 and their first child, Tomasz, was born about 1888 and he was followed by Jan, Marianna, Katarzyna, Bronislaw aka Bryan, and Szczpan aka Stephen. The family moved from Boreczek to Scotlandby 1889 and on 11 Apr 1901 they left Scotland for America, arriving at the Port of New York on 24 Apr 1901. This researcher is unsure what happened to Josef after 1903 but he is dead by the 1910 census.

Ewa settled in Manayunk, Philadelphia and worked as a "mill wife" and in later years lived with her daughter and son in law, Katarzyna and Bernard Miller and then with her son Stephen

At some point during the span of 1930-1940 some of Ewa's children began to change their surname from Opiela to Scott in the case of Jan/John and to O'Pella in the case of Bronislaw/Bryan.

Ewa died in 1947.
