August 13, 1914 - June 5, 2012

August John Lindekugel, 97, of Imperial, NE passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Imperial Manor.

August was born the fourth of eight children on August 13, 1914, to Fredrick William and Clara C. Culp Lindekugel at Hershey, NE. He grew up on three farms south of Hershey and graduated from Star High School in 1932. He enjoyed saying he was salutatorian of his class; however there were only two in the graduating class. His classmate was a baseball pitcher and August was the catcher; they played on various area teams.

After graduating, August started farming with his father and went out on his own in 1936.

On June 4, 1939, August married Lola V. Rizer at Kearney, NE. Lola was a teacher at Star High School when they met and she taught some of August's siblings. Together they had two children, Raymond and Ruth. They lived in and around the Hershey-North Platte area until moving to Hayes Center in 1947.
In 1946, August was struck by lightning and lost vision in one eye but he never let that slow him down. He retired from farming in 1985 and moved into Hayes Center. He continued to assist his son's farming when able. Lola passed away on November 19, 1997. August moved to Imperial in 2008 and had been a resident of the Imperial Manor since then.

August was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Hayes Center and was a long time member of the Oddfellows Lodge.

August is survived by his son, Raymond (Alice) Lindekugel, of Imperial; son-in-law, Frank Shaughnessy, of Hastings, NE; his brother, Floyd (Margie) Lindekugel, of Gothenburg, NE; a sister, Hazel Wynne, of New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Nina Lindekugel, of Cozad, NE, Margaret Rizer, of Kearney, NE and Marge Rizer, of Omaha; four grandchildren, John (Gail) Lindekugel, of Gretna, NE, Julie (Dennis) Nelson, of Lincoln, Kevin Shaughnessy, of Tuscaloosa, AL and Erin (Nate) Fisher, of Grant, NE; nine great-grandchildren, Schyler, Kealan, Tristan, Travis, Trina, Troy, Hallie, Maggie and Alexis; several nieces, nephews and other family.
