EAST PALESTINE - Mrs. Eleanor K. Allison, 70,passed away at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, at her residence, following a brief illness.

Eleanor was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Steubenville, a daughter of the late Herbert and Evelyn E. Harmon Nealis, and had resided in East Palestine since 1950.

A graduate of East Palestine High School, she had received her bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University, and later her master's from YSU in gifted education. Prior to her retirement in 2006, she had been employed with the Columbiana County Education Services Center as the Gifted Coordinator for 20 years.

An active member of the First United Presbyterian Church, she had served on numerous committees and positions with her church over the years.

She had been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Alpha Eta Study Group, and the Town and Country Garden Club. She had also served as coordinator with the Odyssey of the Mind Program, and later Destination Imagination.

Eleanor was also a member of the Ohio Association for Gifted Children.

Her husband, James R. Allison, whom she married May 2, 1959, preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1989.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann E. (Eric) Hall, East Palestine, and three sons, J. Bradley (Susan) Allison, East Palestine, Matthew (Terri) Allison, Powhatan, Va., and Jonathan (Kim) Allison, Hilliard. She also leaves a brother, Dr. Richard H. Nealis, Lyman, Maine, and nine grandchildren, Melissa, Greg, Laura, Jessica, Tim, Ben, Kate, James and Brian.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Mark McTrustry, officiating.

The family has asked that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to her church at 109 West Rebecca St., East Palestine, OH 44413.
