"Fountie" Baker was a daughter of Joseph Cephus and Paulina Payne Martin of the Ayersville community in Rockingham Co. NC near the Stokes County line. She married Thomas M. Baker on Nov. 04, 1860 after he had come to that community to teach school. She later moved with him back to the Friendship community in Stokes Co. not far from Germanton. Their children were Robert F.A.(Bud) Baker , Alice M. Baker Fowler, Emma Lou Baker Fowler, Minnie, who died at the age of 20, and Thomas Baker, who married Bessie Pulliam and moved to Randolph Co.
