Canby-- Bertha King Dedman, mayor of Canby in 1957-1958 and the only woman mayor in the town's history, died Tuesday in an Oregon City hospital. She was 81.
Dedman a native of Spokane, had lived in Canby since 1928. She and her late husband, Craig, operated the Rexall Drugstore in Canby. Following her husband's death in 1947, she operated the drugstore for 10 years, until she became a grade-school teach in the Canby School District. Dedman retired from teaching in 1967.
She succeeded her father-in-law, H.A. Dedman, as mayor in 1957.
Surviving is a son, Lyle Dedman, of Milwaukie.
Funeral will be 2 P.M. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Canby, and burial will be in Zion Memorial Park Cemetery.
