Frances Bates, 85, of New Market died Friday. She was a member of the Church of Christ and retired as a registered nurse after 60 years. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Powers; her daddy, Ollie Barber; and her granddaughter, Dawn Bates. Survivors include her sons, Glenn Bates and wife Lynne of Cullman, Tommy Bates and wife Sherrie of Birmingham, and Kirby Wayne Bates and wife Dottie of Manchester, Tenn.; daughter, Mickey Kirch and husband Edd of Madison; sisters, Gayle Rudd of New Market and Judith Lindsey of Texas; stepsister, Sally Hargrove; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two nieces; and two nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Maple Hill Cemetery with Anthony Ford officiating. The family would like to thank Hospice Family Care, Dr. Scarborough, Ernestine, Betty, Kat, Suzanne, Donna, Connie, Elizabeth, Elisa, and Anthony Ford for all their love, care, and support during Frances's illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Family Care, 3304 Westmill Drive, Huntsville, AL 35805.
