Mary Taylor Welch, 88, of Scipio, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at her home. She was a 1931 graduate of Columbus High School and a homemaker. She was a member of Browns Corner Chapel near Scipio, where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, a former member of T.O.P.S. in Hayden, and enjoyed sewing, gardening and genealogy.

Born January 7, 1913 in Azalia, she was the daughter of Everett Lee and Jeanie Thompson Taylor, who both preceded her in death. On February 26, 1939, in Jeffersonville, she married Clarence E. "Bub" Welch. He survives.

Surviving with her husband are a son, Joseph E. Welch and his wife, Bonita, of Scipio; two daughters, Janet Jones and her husband, John, of Scipio, and Marylynne Sharp and her husband, Donald, of Reddington; four grandsons, Tony Welch, Darren Welch and Alan Welch, all of Indianapolis, and Rick Jones of Scipio; two granddaughters, Sandi Hahn of North Vernon, and Anita Austin of Scipio; three sisters, Pauline Stanfield of Elizabethtown, Cindi Crist of Newark, Ohio, and Edna Vaughn of Seymour; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, David Brent Welch, on October 10, 1963; and two brothers, John E. Taylor and Harry Taylor.

The Rev. Aryn Meritt will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at Browns Corner Chapel, with burial to follow at Reddington Cemetery. Calling is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Browns Corner Chapel.
