Sallie Jane White, 90, of Glenwood, Marietta, passed away peacefully at Marietta Memorial Hospital Thursday (Oct. 2, 2008) at 4:16 p.m.
She was born in Marietta to Pressley Milford and Katharine Jeanette McKim White on May 21, 1918. She was a lifelong resident of Marietta, graduating with honors from Marietta High School in 1937. She was also a graduate of Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass., where she was a Wellesley Scholar, and commissioned in the U.S. Navy during World War II. At one time, Sallie had been employed in the Admissions Office at Marietta College, served on the Welfare League and was treasurer of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where she was a lifelong member.
Sallie is survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy White of Marietta; nieces, Kay (Gilbert) King of West Falmouth, Mass., Constance (Richard) Tevebaugh of Woodbridge, Conn., Barbara (Richard) Stockton of Summit, N.J., Donn (Daniel) Shull of Rockport, Texas, and Sandia Sommer of Marietta; nephews, Bill (Maureen) Boian of Orange, Conn., Stephen (Lauvon) White of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Jonathan (Ingrid) White of Columbus, Richard (Debbie) White of North Wilkesboro, N.C., Kim (Tanyga) White of Sugar Land, Texas, and David (Anita) White of Marietta; as well as numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friend, Esther Stowe.
In addition to her parents, Sallie was preceded in death by her sister, Caroline Boian; and brothers, John Wade White and Pressley M. White Jr.
Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, with full military honors.
