HAD REACHED RIPE OLD AGE.
John A. Ledbetter, son of Isaac and Libby Jane Ledbetter, was born in Macoupin county, Illinois, on November 11, 1852, and died August 13, 1933, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 2 days. He had been in failing health for over a year. He was married to Lucy Belle Hoots on March 20, 1874, in Jacksonville, Illinois. They lived most of their lives on a farm near Maywood, Missouri. They spent a few years in LaBelle. They went to Shelbyville with their daughter, Mrs. Orville Stevens, four years ago, with whom they have made their home for over sixteen years.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and six children, twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. Clara Logan, LaBelle; Mrs. Henry Wenger, of Dixon, Illinois; Fred Ledbetter, of Hull, Illinois; Mrs. Mae Johnson, of Jacksonville, Illinois; Albert Ledbetter, La Belle, and Mrs. Orvile Stevens, of Shelbyville. Three children died in infancy. Also surviving are two brothers, Dill Ledbetter, of Hannibal, and George Ledbetter, of Arkansas. Five brothers and two sisters preceded him In death. Mr. Ledbetter united with the Baptist church thirty-two years ago.
Funeral services were held the La Belle Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Brannic [sic], of the Shelbyville Christian church. The pallbearers were six grandchildren, and all of them brothers, viz.: Oscar, Harry, Brook, Dee, James and Brainard Logan. Flower girls were from Shelbyville. They were: Reva McMasters, Goldie Robb and Opal Hymer.
