Gladys was born on Aug. 13, 1924, in the town of Curran, Jackson County, Wis., to Anton and Oline (Estenson) Johnson. She married Irvin Semb on October 24, 1942, in Pigeon Falls. Irvin preceded Gladys in death on May 19, 1984.
Gladys and Irvin farmed in Fitch Coulee. Gladys cooked at various restaurants and at the Golden Age Home in Whitehall. She was employed in the food service department at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center prior to her retirement. Gladys enjoyed quilting and jig saw puzzles.
Gladys is survived by four sons, Gary (Anita), Roy (Barb), Ivan (Paula Hentges) and Peter (Jeanne), all of Whitehall; two daughters, Irma Schindler of Bangor and Eileen (Roger) Harrison of Galesville; a brother, Kenneth Johnson of Blair; two sisters-in-law, Helen Johnson of Blair and Marcella Semb of Pigeon Falls; 23 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Behne; a son-in-law, George Behne; a step-grandson, Howard; five brothers, Neilen, John, Bernard, Oliver and Melvin; two sisters, Agnes Julson and Emma Shay.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 22, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Pigeon Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Dale Moe will officiate.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 21, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
